I’m rather proud of myself. After a rocky start, my iPhone has cooperated, and I now have joined the Interiors Photo a Day on Instagram. This means that after today I won’t be continuing the challenge here at my blog, but you can follow me on Instagram, where my user name is mypinkdoor. It’ll be much more fun – there are lots of other interior mad people sharing their snaps – and remember, so can you. I’ll see you there …

OK, I am totally cheating today. The weather is miserable and lighting so poor that I had no luck at all with the photos I took. I did try! I figured the next best thing was to post a photo of my home, even if I didn’t take it today. Even better, this one covers both topics for today, Old and Bargain (Bargain is actually day 3, but I’m making up for lost time remember). I think it’s French but I bought this canister at a little antique shop in Ireland, so it better be old, and yes, it was a bargain, I think.
Old, Bargain
Today I’m joining this photo a day challenge. I read about this fun idea, adapted by Jen Bishop at Interiors addict, at Kara Rosenlund’s blog. And I’m adapting it a bit further. The original idea is that you take a shot of whatever is listed for that day of the month, and share it on instagram. Firstly, I’m late, (if you too can hear my sons growling, ‘what’s new?’, just ignore them), so I will start at no 10 (it’s 10 July) but I’ll also take a photo of no 1. I’ll double up daily until I catch up. Make sense? Secondly, I have already wasted so much time trying to figure out instagram (yes, I am challenged in certain areas, but don’t get my sons started on that …) that I’m going to post my photos on My Pink Door. Thirdly, I think I’ll take the photos with my camera not my phone as I really need the practice. My camera is a little dusty.
What about you? Think this would be fun? Well then, do join in!
Day 10. Books
Day 1. Coffee table
If a picture says a thousand words, do you think this says ‘de-clutter, de-clutter, de-clutter’ over and over again? Could it also be saying ‘paint me white’?

It’s so long since I last posted that I almost forget how. I wasn’t sure I’d ever do it again to be honest, but here I am. Inspired by the work of Australian artist Pia Blair, I just had to share. I’d seen some photos of her work lately but couldn’t pin down the source or artist, so was delighted this morning when I stumbled upon this feature on Design Files.
Apart from the fact that they are gorgeous, aren’t these artworks so much fun? Pia lives in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, lucky woman, and has recently resigned from her full time job as art teacher to concentrate on her art. She explores the city on her motorbike sourcing goodies for her works, and it sounds like she is having some serious fun. Read more on her blog.
I’ve been doing a few collages lately, very basic mind you, as part of the design course I’m studying and it. is. so. much. fun. If I could tear pictures out of magazines and stick them on paper all day long, I would.
Fun. There should be more of it.

A few weeks ago when son number two and his girlfriend Wei were visiting from China, Wei decided to treat us with a sumptuous Chinese feast, featuring homemade dumplings. It was such a fun night. God I love having my babies home, they sure liven up the joint. I would show you my photos of the night, but seeing as my sister Jess is the photographer, I’m sure you’d much rather see hers over at Where My Heart Is.
How was your weekend? Mine was very productive. Among other things, I finished this painting. I had to, we needed the living room back. I didn’t think I would keep this one, but it actually looks perfect in the entrance hallway. I was inspired by this phot0 which you may have seen a month ago. A very loose representation …
Nothing beats being creative. And it’s especially nice when you like the finished product.
No, I have not dropped off the side of the the earth, I am however on the other side of it. I’m in Italy (yes, ITALY!) on Rose’s Yoga Retreat, although that hasn’t started yet. We needed to acclimatise first – sample the local produce – the prosecco (champagne), sauvignon bianco, (and the food), find our bearings – from Rome, to the ancient wall city of Lucca, to the coast of Cinque Terre where we’re heading today – and undertake language immersion. ‘Acqua frizzante’ (sparkling mineral water) is just rolling off the tongue and it’s only been three days.
I do have photos to share, but can’t upload them for some reason. Very annoying … and technical support isn’t resonding to my pleas for help. Where are you Sam?
Ciao for now.
